Makunduchi Village Cultural Walking Tour

Discover the secrets of Zanzibar culture at Makunduchi village, where traditions are still practiced. Here you will experience and learn the authentic Swahili lifestyle and culture practically. You will visit the Swahili houses built with mud and thatched-roof and participate in fun of pounding by mortar and pestle with locals. Experience the traditional healings of the local Witchdoctor and you can even screen yourself if there is anything wrong with you. Rope-making is one of the traditional handicraft and commercial activity for the women of this village. It is an old industry that absorbs women from different ranges of age. The initial stage of this industry is worth seeing, when the coconut husks are buried at the sea where a visitor is allowed to see the process. Local lunch will be served and you will enjoy some traditional food used in the village. The tour will end up with special show of traditional wear – Kanga is a traditional attire of the Swahili people – it is a treasured women cloth that goes with messages which can be ironical or profess blessing – it is wrapped in different styles, ranging from those sending the messages of decency and respect to those of follow-me if you dare and you will try some of the styles.
